Watch the Quick Truth video here: Do You Really Want God’s Will?
Do you really want God’s will, or do you want God to approve yours?
James 4:13–16 confronts the way we often think about our plans.
We plan our work, our money, our families, our goals, and our future. Planning itself is not wrong. James is warning us about something deeper: living as though tomorrow belongs to us.
Scripture reminds us that we do not know what tomorrow will bring.
That is why James tells us to say:
“If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.”
The point is not that Christians should stop making plans.
The point is that we should make them with humility.
Make the plan.
Work hard.
Use wisdom.
Be responsible.
But do not hold your plans so tightly that you cannot accept it when God changes the direction.
God is not part of your plan.
You are part of His.
So when something does not go the way you expected, do not immediately assume everything has gone wrong.
Trust God with the part you cannot control, and be faithful with what He has placed in front of you today.
Soli Deo Gloria
To God alone be the glory.
