Can someone believe in Jesus and still not possess saving faith?
James 2:19 gives us a sobering warning that simply knowing true things about God is not the same thing as trusting in Christ.
James writes:
“You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder!”
James 2:19 ESV
The demons know who God is. They recognize the authority of Christ. But biblical faith is more than acknowledging facts.
Jesus gives an even stronger warning in Matthew 7:21:
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven.”
Saving faith is not merely saying the right words or agreeing that Jesus exists.
It is trusting in Christ, resting in what He has done, and following Him as Lord.
So the question is not only:
“Do I believe Jesus exists?”
The more important question is:
“Am I trusting in Christ?”
